blike Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Is it me or is the server running a little slower than it used to? I'm getting some errors too once in awhile...Anyone else?
greg1917 Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 yeah, pages are loading slower and getting some page not found erros as well. was fine last night
atinymonkey Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 I assumed it was just me. I'm tired, I didn't notice it was slow at both work and home.
Skye Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 It took aaaaaaages, so I googled for scienceforums.net and came in as a nonmember, and it worked fine. (btw that was a little while ago, it worked fine now too)
atinymonkey Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Well, I just had a coffee and perked up a bit. Then so did the server o_O
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 It is slower. Even getting to this thread it was. Maybe it's all the new users?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 We'd have to find out if all the slow people have the same ISP. And the fast ones a seperate ISP.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 I use Comcrap, formerly known as Comcast. As you can tell, I hate them. Boy, now it's REALLY slow!
Sayonara Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 It is running quite slow. Time to do all the tedious little tasks that let you wring every spare drop of performance out of the database. OPTIMIZE TABLE `BIGGEST_ONES`
fafalone Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 Optimized. Still not faster. The speed is not at all related to our site, it's other sites on the server slowing things down for everyone.
Sayonara Posted February 14, 2004 Posted February 14, 2004 How much does a dedicated box cost over there?

Sayonara Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 Cap'n Refsmmat said in post # :What other sites are there? It's unlikely any customer on that server knows which other sites are on it, unless they themselves have multiple sites there. Or if they own the server ofc.
LuTze Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 There are (approx) 450 other sites on the same server as scienceforums.net, the first three of which are: - http://www.1275guaranteed.com http://www.12weekstillaugust.net http://www.167adayteam.com Got that from http://www.whois.sc - you can do lookups by IP address though they'll only show you the first three results with free membership.
blike Posted February 15, 2004 Author Posted February 15, 2004 wow. 450 :/ one of those 450 sites has an admin who can't use MySQL for the life of him. Our database really shouldn't hamper the server performance, at all
Sayonara Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 I didn't mean that it would. I meant if the server is being slow, you should remove any overhead from the database so that the only avoidable delays are due to the server itself. That's what I meant by "wringing out every spare drop".
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 BUMP!!! Boy, now it's REALLY SLOW!!!! At least tonight it is...
