Bleaching of wood using Hydrogen peroxide

Hi,

I am planning to do bleaching of wood using Hydrogen peroxide. I just want to know the basics. What is the color that gives brown for plant parts & also which part of the plant is removed while bleaching. Can any one help me in this issue.

Nothing is removed when bleaching. Bleaching simply oxidizes chemicals that are responsible for colour. Colour is a result of highly conjugated chemical bonds that allow a molecule to absorb and readmit light at discrete wavelengths corresponding to the difference between electron energy levels.

Bleaching simply removes these conjugated bonds, usually by attaching an Oxygen molecule to them.

 

I'd assume that the brown colour in wood is either due to certain arrangements of lignin or pigments in the wood. But don't quote me on that.

Isn't calcium hydrogen sulphite Ca(HSO3)2 better for bleaching wood or are they all pretty much the same?
