Drilon Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 We've heard of favorite actors/actresses, favorite musicians, music etc etc. I guess its fair to ask about your favorite scientist my favorite scientist of all time is Nicola Tesla
YT2095 Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I have quite a few, but Earnest Rutherford is certainly in my Top 5.
CDarwin Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I don't think I have to answer that question. EDIT: Rutherford was a prat.
Klaynos Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Maxwell or Young, both exceptionally and under estimated by many;
Reaper Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I like Kim Peek, he's not a scientist though. Scientists: Penrose Einstein Feynman Tesla
iNow Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 First and foremost: Carl Sagan Then, Nicolaus Copernicus Also, Frederick Banting, for he is a large part of the reason I am alive today.
Reaper Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Also, Frederick Banting, for he is a large part of the reason I am alive today. I didn't know you were diabetic. But then there are lots of things I don't know about you anyway . Physicists... pfft. Physicists rule!
someguy Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 I don't know alot about scientists but out of the ones i know I think i would say Newton.
Sisyphus Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Among my favorites: Francis Bacon Michael Faraday Charles Darwin Albert Einstein Niels Bohr Richard Feynman Carl Sagan That's just off the top of my head, so apologies to whoever I'm forgetting.
iNow Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 That's just off the top of my head, so apologies to whoever I'm forgetting. Exactly. It's harder than picking a favorite ice cream flavor (or, flavour for those of you who speak the Queen's English ). At least with ice cream flavors, there are reasonable limits to the choices. I mean, how freakin' many awesome scientists have there been?
iNow Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 My favourite is Michael Behe Perhaps different divisions of "scientist" should be added to the question. Do you enjoy the work of Maciej Giertych also?
ajb Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Maxwell for unification of electric and magnetic theory. In doing so he created the first theory with Lorentz and gauge symmetry and electromagnetic duality, of course this was not realised at the time. Yang and Mills for generalising the above. Einstein and Hilbert for general relativity.
CDarwin Posted September 10, 2007 Posted September 10, 2007 My favourite is Michael Behe Ooh, ooh, forgot about Lysenko too.
