Externet Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Checking prices of the stuff, they are absolutely absurd. If a couple of cubic metres are needed, it's bankruptcy, and its only about 30 Kg. of material Can something similar be made in a backyard ?, does not need to be a superb product, just similar to that extremely light white packing material we all know, polyestyrene foam. iNow Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Some engineers with whom I work used to package parts for shipping by placing them inside a box, then placing a large black trash bag over them and spraying a can or two of "Great Stuff" expanding foam insulation into the inside of the bag. It would then expand around the parts far better than any other packaging material. Not sure the above is relevant, but you might pick up some information at this link. They speak briefly of how to make it: http://www.eere.energy.gov/consumer/your_home/insulation_airsealing/index.cfm/mytopic=11620
