Runninfarmer Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 What are the products of electrolysis of aqueous KMnO4?
Runninfarmer Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Stainless steal, carbon, or platinum. I wouldn't mind knowing the products for all three.
shadowacct Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Assuming the electrodes are inert, you'll get the following: Anode: oxygen gas Cathode: probably some hydrogen gas, but also reduction of permanganate to MnO2. If pH is very low, you even can get reduction to Mn(2+).
