CDarwin Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Is it really always so horrible? Surely there are threads that may have terminated long ago but that a new poster might have a fresh opinion on.
Spyman Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I would say it depends on the reason, we are advised to post in existing threads. I have only seen complaints when someone is trolling or spamming. So far, nobody has told me that I am a "Horrible Necromancer"... III. Posting New Threads Use the Search Function Before you post a thread, use the search function to see if anyone else has posted the same topic. It's better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one. From Science Forums Etiquette: -> http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8730 1
YT2095 Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 just use your own judgement, it would pointless posting in a thread "Will we ever catch saddam" or who will win the 2000 World Cup! there`s no Law against bringing back an old thread if the new data has merit
the tree Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 there`s no Law against bringing back an old thread if the new data has merit That. Bringing up old threads when you have nothing to say, is really annoying though.
Phi for All Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Bringing up old threads when you have nothing to say, is really annoying though. The worst is when the Necromancer meets the Post Whore and you get old threads with new comments like, "I agree" "LOL" and "Looks good". There is a special level of Hell for those people, the same one reserved for child molesters and people who talk at the theatre. * * Thanks, Sheppard! 1
the tree Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 * Thanks, Sheppard!/me sighs disapprovingly.
Phi for All Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 /me sighs disapprovingly.Mea culpa, and apologies to Shepherd Book and the tree who stands vigilant watch over him. 1
CDarwin Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 You know what someone needs to do in about 6 months? Necromance this thread. 1
Phi for All Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 You know what someone needs to do in about 6 months? Necromance this thread.Nice.
Reaper Posted October 18, 2007 Posted October 18, 2007 You know what someone needs to do in about 6 months? Necromance this thread. I'll have you know that I have a very, very good memory
Physia Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 What if there is an old thread that is closed and someone has a fresh opinion on? What should they do in that case?
Royston Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 What if there is an old thread that is closed and someone has a fresh opinion on? What should they do in that case? 3rd post... there`s no Law against bringing back an old thread if the new data has merit
ydoaPs Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 3rd post... But Physia wants to know about CLOSED old threads. I doubt (s)he has the ability to open threads after they've been closed.
Royston Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 But Physia wants to know about CLOSED old threads. I doubt (s)he has the ability to open threads after they've been closed. Oops, missed that. Perhaps a mod can answer that one.
YT2095 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 it can be requested that it be re-opened if the new post is submitted priorly to a member of staff and a sufficient reason is provided Why this new post should be added. Bribes are not Unacceptable either, but I didn`t say that
Phi for All Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Oops, missed that. Perhaps a mod can answer that one.I might open an old closed thread for Physia if (s)he reduced the type size in her signature. I dislike being distracted by disturbing displays (sorry if it seems like I'm dissing you).
Physia Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I might open an old closed thread for Physia if (s)he reduced the type size in her signature. I dislike being distracted by disturbing displays (sorry if it seems like I'm dissing you). Answers my question well enough. Thank you.
Klaynos Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Tee hee So does this new information have merit or do we lynch him?
Phi for All Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 So does this new information have merit or do we lynch him?Just cover him with salt.
D H Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Just cover him with salt. Not nearly severe enough for necromancing a thread on necromancy.
DrP Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 What's necromancy? Talking to / Raising the dead. In this respect then it's pertaining to the resurection of a 'dead' thread not posted in for a long time.
Mr Skeptic Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 *replaces bait and casts another line* I think Snail said it best
