Blade
the latest hollywood style "documentary" http://video.google.nl/videoplay?docid=-4488155708142678419&q=Dimming+the+Sun&total=15&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1 a BBC "documentary" about how pollution changes clouds to reflect 10% more light and how it counters global warming. so cleaning the air may cause more global warming. the advice given was: clean both the air and greenhouse gasses. personally i don't belive in thes documentary. a nice Q&A link http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=
Royston
personally i don't belive in thes documentary. Ok...why don't you believe in this documentary though ? Aerosols reflect solar radiation, compounds absorb, if you rapidly reduce aerosols, then more radiation will enter the atmosphere with greater absorption, and cause a rapid temperature rise, hence tackle both problems. Note, we havn't created a steady state. EDIT: That documentary is rather old, and I'm just recollecting from memory, but the principle above still holds. insane_alien
the earths albedo changes from day to day. i can't veiw the documentary. but more clouds does equal cooler temperatures as not as much radiation is absorbed by the earth.

insane_alien
it only fails because we can not gather and process information on every tiny wind eddie and current. all these can influence bigger systems ala the butterfly effect. we get it right 80% of the time any we are getting better at it. Reaper
Mind you, there have been several successful predictions made a while ago using climate models with regard to global warming, and our models are not statistical in nature, but are based on the laws of physics. Here is a link to how they are done: http://www.logicalscience.com/skeptic_arguments/models-dont-work.html
