There was evidence shown recently that stars could be drawn into a black hole, which made plenty of sense, but hadn't been seen. The star was apparently pulled apart by the extreme differences in gravity that the near and far regions of it experienced as it approached the black hole. Most of the star had enough momentum to escape, with only a few percent falling to the black hole. More than anything though, there are some really nice images.

That's pretty cool. I read that in the paper yesterday too.

 

It goes on to say how our Milky Way's center does this every so often as well.
