Sayonara
2002 LM60 was identified orbiting within the Kuiper belt. It's about half the size of Pluto and has been dubbed Quaoar for the moment. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2306945.stm
aman
Thanks Sayonara. As long as it didn't just arrive I feel comfortable and educated. Wish I had the means to search for more. Just aman

Another large body has been found - this one is 3000 billion miles from the sun and can only be detected because its immense gravity deflects cometary matter from the belts. And it's HUGE. aman
I wonder if one of the Pioneer explorers might be going by it? To bad we didn't equip it with longer lasting power. Just aman
Sayonara
And another, this one bigger than Quaoar and further out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/3506329.stm
Quantum Defect
They don't know if it is bigger. "With an estimated size of somewhere between 840 - 1,800 km it may be larger that Quaoar, which is 1,000 - 1,400 across."

Diesel
so there are now 10 planets in solar system ?
andy
I think so, but it depends if astronomers count it as a planet as there is some debate about it. It is called Sedna now.

Cap'n Refsmmat
There is no shuttle up there. But really, a tenth planet/near-planet? Surprises me they didn't see it sooner.

Cap'n Refsmmat
I should say "classify," then. I bet all the ones out there are the answers to "Why are the outer planets' orbits perturbed like that?" I bet all the nuts out there will say, "Oh no! They will all come and destroy earth!" or something to that effect. Boy, all the science textbooks are obsolete now.
