dau360 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I need help on the question: Why can a rocket accelerate into space when the force of takeoff remain the same?
brainfart94 Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Why not? I'm sure it doesn't stay the same. That way it wouldn't work, right? Just some common sense
insane_alien Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 the force does stay quite level. but you need to ask, why would that stop it accelerating?
swansont Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Assuming the force from the rocket stays constant, the acceleration should increase, because the force of gravity decreases, and because the mass decreases. F = ma Even if the reference is to the net force, the acceleration increases as the mass decreases. If it's the specific force (i.e. F/m) that remains constant, then acceleration would remain constant.
