CrazCo Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 1) What type of chemical liaison must be present in an electrolyte? Give your reasons. 2) How come ionic solids don't conduct electricity, but are good conductors after their fusion? pretty please help
ChemSiddiqui Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 quick Chemistry questions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) What type of chemical liaison must be present in an electrolyte? Give your reasons. I am not sure about that. I think there isn't any binding needed for electrolyte. its just that it must conduct electricity. 2) How come ionic solids don't conduct electricity, but are good conductors after their fusion? Ionic solids have very strong attractive forces b/w them. The electrons in them aren't free. But when you heat them and heat them enough to make them molten(fused) they strong attrative forces are broken and the ions are formed which ultimately conduct electricity. Please try to do some reading yourself before you try to ask these sort of questions.
CrazCo Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 ^ yea i do try to, but no matter what i type in on google it seems to give me terrible results, thanks for the help though!
YT2095 Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 1) What type of chemical liaison must be present in an electrolyte? Give your reasons. I`m not altogether certain what the question is here either, it`s not very well worded. an Electrolyte will need free moving Ions, within this will be delocalised electrons that can pass an electrical charge along. I`m not sure if I`ve helped here or answered an entirely different question that you meant:confused:
