To always have a great wise quote that applies to the situation, you need great wise quotes that contradict each other. I'll start:

 

One man's food is another man's poison.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

 

Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

Out of sight, out of mind.

 

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

The quacking duck gets shot.
