Royston Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Just wondering if there are any plans to update the homepage i.e Book of the Month, and the Richard Dawkins talk. It's just there's no longer a media / book discussion forum...plus, it might look better with something more current (with the homepage being the first page any newcomers will see.) Just a thought.
YT2095 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 it would be Nice to have our Christmas Logo in place again. HINT HINT!
doG Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Maybe someone will make one HINT HINT Or you could use the one from last year. There's still a copy of it in this thread...
blike Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 The site colors have changed up top, it wouldn't match anymore.
Royston Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 I can come up with something tonight (though nothing animated...just a photoshop effort.) Providing somebody answers the OP
Klaynos Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I can come up with something tonight (though nothing animated...just a photoshop effort.) Providing somebody answers the OP It's already been answered in another thread.... of course I can't remember where though, blike said something about having a lack of time, and if people would like to suggest new posts then fine...
blike Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I can come up with something tonight (though nothing animated...just a photoshop effort.) Providing somebody answers the OPlol, is that a bribe?
Royston Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 Got it one The reason I deleted the last post, was that some of my course materials have been made available online...so I started studying physics, instead of coming up with festive logos. It didn't seem fair to start changing the conditions of the bribe...however, I'm done studying, so I'll get some ideas onto photoshop tonight.
doG Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 some of my course materials have been made available online...so I started studying physics... FWIW, MIT's OpenCourseWare has quite a bit of physics material online...
Royston Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 Thanks doG Well, this is my first attempt, (snowman in lab coat) I'll come up with some more tomorrow, when I'm not so tired next time...
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 That's actually a pretty cool idea. The blue outlines don't seem to work too well though. Perhaps it could become SFN's Winter Mascot
iNow Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 It'd be cool if the "nuclear symbol" of the logo were used as ears on the snowman (or... I guess "ear" singular since it's a profile)...
Royston Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 Well I tried a black outline first, though not sure about that...followed with a dark blue outline (matching the sfn logo.) The standard snowy logo, and finally the old favourite, Santa's hat placed on an elliptical orbit. I won't take offense, if none of these are suitable.
blike Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Snail, where'd you get the snowman? I'm working on a logo now - I'd like to use yours and touch it up a bit.. Softened the edges on yours a bit, Snail. If anyone has the skillz to add falling snow, please feel free to do so.
Royston Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 Ha, that looks much better, nice work...didn't think to soften the edges. Like the hat Snail, where'd you get the snowman? Just done by hand, i.e pen and paintbrush tool on Photoshop, so there was quite a bit of pixel by pixel work for the shading, outline et.c Sounds laborious, but took just over an hour.
iNow Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Well I tried a black outline first, though not sure about that...followed with a dark blue outline (matching the sfn logo.) The standard snowy logo, and finally the old favourite, Santa's hat placed on an elliptical orbit. I won't take offense, if none of these are suitable. So crew, when's SFN planning to start celebrating the next winter solstice?
iNow Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Geeesh... I think I should have wished for more wishes, instead. That was quick. Thanks, Cap'n.
