MA is mathematics error (usually something like division by 0). I think Syn is syntax error, like an error in parenthesis. Another common error is overflow, which means your number is too large.

try 21^(5/3)

:) no calculator gets it right. Either a math error (overflow) or if you got a really fancy calculator (palm top) it will give you a really large number, which is wrong.

Try it......

BTW the correct answer is:

3sqroot21^5

which is 159.8449148...

Try putting the actual formula in , not step by step.

Heh, my calculator did. I don't have fractions (5/3) if that's what you did. I use division. If you did division and it gave you the wrong answer, beats me. It's a Casio fx-300W or something. 21 [x^y] ( 5 % 3 )

^ that was supposed to emphasize a division sign haha.

my calculator gives me the answer... but normal calculators will give you an error because the result is imaginary (a multiple of the square root of -1)

.446 + -1.37i

Of course, there is the question of whether you're inputting (21^5)/3.

I think MrL is right.

Are you putting it in right?

Both my Sharp EL-520L & TI-83+ get the same correct answer.

If you want overflow, just get it to work out 1000!

Not even my TI-89 can handle that (I don't think anyway)

haha

I think my SHARP can only go up to 67!

my TI83+ also has a ? as one of the symbols.

DO you knwo what that's for?

my calc got it correct too, the: 21^(5/3) and I entered it in exactly as you wrote.

it`s only a cheap little casio fx-83WA.

but it has built in B.O.D.M.A.S. priorities, so maybe that`s why?

Most of the modern calculators do these days and I think I've got one of those in my draw anyway. I daresay Atlantic just put it into his calculator wrong.

8 quid, mine is like 3 pounds and it gets it right! :) I think you would need to enter in like 21^(5/3)

Thats how i put it on mine and it worked! ITs a casio fx-82TL

I used the X to Y key for ^

casio is actualy a good make, I wear a watch that is also Casio, it has a fully function TV and Video IR remote control built in and also a Learn facility if it doesn`t have the code built in, I`ve had it on my arm every day for the last 5 years and only 1 battery change :)

the original wrist staps that come with them suck though, that lasted about a year before it broke.

sorry, Off Topic I know :)
