Lovesauce Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Mylène Jampanoï is a half French/half Chinese actress. Naturally, she has black hair, fair skin, green-gray eyes, and Asian characteristics with Caucasian tones. What's cool (to me at least) is how versatile she can be with her looks. In photos of her when her hair is brown, she looks as if she's full-on Caucasian, while black hair makes her appear completely Asian (eye color aside). A few days ago I wondered what she'd look like if her eyes were dark, so I quickly photoshopped them brown. Without those piercing peepers, she'd look just like any other Asian. Now it's been said that her father is a full-blooded Chinese. My questions - how did she end up with green-gray eyes? What color eyes does her mom possibly have? For some reason I usually assumed that offspring with features as strong as hers (eyes that light, prominent nose bridge [which isn't common with Asians....although maybe with Northern ones]) would only be about 1/4 Asian at the most. I've never once in my life have seen a half Asian (let alone full-blooded) with naturally black hair and bright eyes. It looks amazing and I'm fascinated by it. I'm full Asian (3/4 Filipino+1/4 Chinese) with all the dark features, so I didn't get so lucky with the genetic lottery. I know these are such n00b questions...I've done countless Google searches but to no avail. Feel free to shed as much light as possible on this. I'm all ears (...or eyes).
iNow Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 So, is your question about the genetic "mixing" which results in eye color? Or, is it possible that your just stimulating some internet buzz for her?

Or, is it possible that your just stimulating some internet buzz for her? The former. I have no reason to create some sort of hype about her....... What's up with giving me a hard time? Either help out or get out, come on. I'm genuinely curious but I'm receiving nothing but smart-ass replies.
iNow Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 What's up with giving me a hard time? Either help out or get out, come on. I'm genuinely curious but I'm receiving nothing but smart-ass replies. I can only defend my own reply (singular). Here are a few good places to start. I suppose I'm struggling with your question because it's so broad. No offense intended, but can you be more specific? Perhaps looking at the following links will help with the terminology: http://www.kumc.edu/gec/support/eyecolor.html http://www.eyecarecontacts.com/eyecolor.html http://www.tedmontgomery.com/the_eye/iris.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_(anatomy) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_color http://www.udel.edu/biology/Wags/histopage/colorpage/cey/cey.htm This one have a higher degree of uncertainty, but it's still pretty cool: http://museum.thetech.org/ugenetics/eyeCalc/eyecalculator.html Btw... Here's another thread on the topic of eye color which may help: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22341

I browsed through those earlier and they were very interesting. My questions, in their clearest form: - How did she end up with eyes that light? - Are the colors of her eyes a result of ancestors with light features on her mother's side? Basically, I'm wondering what kind of parents produced such a cool looking child.
DrDNA Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Wow. She looks exactly like my niece, or as I predict she will look in about 5 yrs. Her father (my brother) is of very northern European descent, and her mother is from Shanghai. I'm getting my brother a large stick with thorns on it for Christmas so he can beat the boys off of his porch.
Dak Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 This thread went stoopid. All the insanity and replies have been removed. Vampares: please try to be a little clearer, a little less non-sequitarial, and a little less generally confusing in future.
Paralith Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Thanks for the links. I browsed through those earlier and they were very interesting. My questions, in their clearest form: - How did she end up with eyes that light? - Are the colors of her eyes a result of ancestors with light features on her mother's side? Her father is probably not 100% chinese. At some point in his ancestry there must have been another mixing, because to get light colored eyes requires two recessive alleles. Her mother alone could not have provided that. I, for example, am half German, half Filipino. Both my brothers' and my eyes are dark brown, but I may have inherited the light colored recessive eye gene from my mother, and it's just being covered up by the brown colored dominant gene from my father. My boyfriend has green eyes, so it's possible our children will have light colored eyes as well. As a sidenote, I am constantly mistaken for other ethnicities. Latino, middle eastern, Indian, native american, Italian - I often get people walking up to me and speaking in different languages.
dichotomy Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 My boyfriend has green eyes, so it's possible our children will have light colored eyes as well. I hope your boyfriend knows your plans! I don’t think she looks like any other Asian with brown photoshopped eyes; she just looks Eurasian to me. I might be because I live in a city where Eurasians are not really an uncommon sight? If the father is 100% Chinese maybe she’s just wearing coloured contact lenses?
