Cap'n Refsmmat Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 I might remind you that this is "scientists vs. normal people," not "scientists vs. the Pope."
gcol Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 "What is a "tinker's dam?"" A tinker's dam, the same as a tinker's cuss, are worthless by their commonality, and as unremarkable as the chastity of a eunuch.
JohnB Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Don't ask, don't tell. Neigh. Doesn't surprise me though. I was in jewellery for some time and got to the stage I could give a rough approximation of silver content in and country of origin of rings.
Norman Albers Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Like many of us on our not very best days they have the energies but not the momenta.
thedarkshade Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Quite true. Since diabetics don't respond to insulin (or stop producing it) glucose is not taken up by the liver. It must be excreted by the kidneys, therefore. Diabetes mellitus is caused due to lack of insulin, which in this case is the transporter of glucose inside the cell. The pores of the cell membrane can let enter inside only molecules with a certain molar mass (I've heard till 100g/mol), and as glucose is 180g/mol it cannot enter. And insulin transports glucose inside the cell, so when insulin is no longer produced then glucose is "left out"! Correct?!
iNow Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Diabetes mellitus is caused due to lack of insulin<snip> Correct?! No. And do you mean type I or type II? EDIT: Never mind. Not at all relevant to this thread.
thedarkshade Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Type I is treated by insulin injection or inhalation, so I guess type I.
thedarkshade Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Momenta! What's so special with using these kind of fonts. No offense, just curious!
Norman Albers Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Intellectual momentum, hopefully in a definably correct direction.
Norman Albers Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 This thread lacks a normal vector and we should all be ashamed. Or pour another beer.
Psyber Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Obviously they skimped on an important element in rocket design - Viagra. Type I is treated by insulin injection or inhalation, so I guess type I. Actually, Insulin production may be normal but cellular response to its release lacking in some cases - the cells fail to take up glucose in response to increased Insulin release. Oral medications may improve the response to the Insulin if this is mild and prevent the need for Insulin therapy. In other cases Pancreatic damage or autoimmune attack on the Insulin producing cells may reduce Insulin production. Then its replacement is essential.
Taq_is_hot Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 The first cartoon was really funny. It reminds me of something I have heard. One of my high school english teachers told me this one. There is something called the English teacher disease. It can be deadly is situations such as this: You are about to fall off a ladder that is unstable and all you need to say is "Help!" to your buddy quick enough so that he can grab the ladder and make it steady. But instead of using quick, blunt words, you are an English teacher. You end up saying "Could someone please give me some assistance in steadying this ladder which is about to be taken down to the ground by gravity, causing me injury and possible death?" By the time you finish the sentence, you are already injured or dead.
john5746 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I really like that an English Teacher dies in the joke. Very Good
gcol Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 iNow: Very amusing. However, I saw just the first three scenes and sort of guessed at the fourth before scrolling down. I guessed that all the stock had gone before they made up their minds. A fifth scene, perhaps? Or: The sum total of an infinity of dithering equals zero (or something like that).
seven8s Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 A prejudice has been bred against scientists, and atheists, science, and visa versa, yep theists. Dak Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 seven8s, please stop linking to billy joel music videos for no apparent reason.
seven8s Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 seven8s, please stop linking to billy joel music videos for no apparent reason. Why? Is there a rule of the forum that states that I can't. p.s. censorship comes in all shapes and sizes, no big deal.
iNow Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Why do I get the feeling that you're not going to last long here?
Sisyphus Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 All in favor of making a rule against linking to Billy Joel music videos for no apparent reason, say aye.
ydoaPs Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Is there a rule of the forum that states that I can't. Spam, advertising, and probably some others.
