frosch45 Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Sodium Azide is the compound used to make airbags inflate. When it decomposes it produces nigrogen gas and sodium solid. Has anyone ever tried to take one of these things apart? There is a second reaction that takes place that uses up the sodium and also produces more nitrogen gas. Has anyone tried to isolate the Sodium Azide from the airbags then decompose it and then capture the sodium? How about making the air dehumidified? If the air temperature was below 0 degrees C would the humidity be reduced to practically nothing?
hermanntrude Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 if you want some sodium, just buy it. But be careful. azides are pesky buggers and have a tendency to explode. At least with sodium you generally know when it will explode and why
