Pangloss Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Very cool pic of the Large Hadron Collider on today's Astronomy Picture of the Day: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap080225.html (That's a perma-link, so it should work even after "today".) Pretty exciting that they're just about ready to fire that thing up. Almost makes me want to donate CPU cycles to the LHC@Home project.
timo Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I don't think LHC@home is running anymore. Afaik, it was supposed to help designing the storage ring, not for analyzing the data of the detectors.
ecoli Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 that's quite impressive... what's the LHC@home project edit: crossposted with Atheist... he pretty much answered this question.

Phi for All Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I posted this a while ago: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?p=380520#post380520 You mean I have to hit that hole behind where you're standing?! I used to bullseye wamp-rats in my T-16 and they're not much bigger than 2 meters.
timo Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 You have to hit it from a distance of 27 km (which is also where the previously-mentioned LHC@home comes in)
swansont Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 You mean I have to hit that hole behind where you're standing?! I used to bullseye wamp-rats in my T-16 and they're not much bigger than 2 meters. Use the electromagnetic force, Luke.
