Royston Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I was interested to hear some thoughts from someone who understands the technical details of the idea proposed by the British astrophysicist, Dr Hongsheng Zhao. Please see the sciencedaily and arxiv articles below...at face value it seems like chalk and cheese to me, but as a lowly undergrad, I'd like to hear an expert opinion on the idea... http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/01/080131094056.htm http://arxiv.org/abs/0710.3616

Hongsheng Zhao is a reputable guy. Here are 86 papers on arxiv by him h is http://arxiv.org/find/astro-ph/1/au:+Zhao_H/0/1/0/all/0/1 You can see that many many have been published in good peerreview journals like ApJ (astrophysical journal). So it is not a crackpot or fringe thing. Also what he says in the Sciencedaily article makes a lot of sense to me---as a conjecture. I have to go to supper, maybe I can write some more later. For now, as a superficial spot reaction, it looks like he has some ideas that are worth investigating. Nothing you can count on yet, but interesting. Thanks for flagging the article for us!
kaneda Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 He believes that DM which is said to be a gravitational source made of matter is linked to DE which is an energy source which is said to repel (the opposite of gravity). Also a little matter makes an awful lot of energy. His idea sounds very far fetched to me, but then I don't believe in DM or DE.
