Robin Hood Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Just how small is a nanometer? Liked this guys analogy with the aircraft carrier... anyone got a better one?
insane_alien Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 circumference of george bush's brain? he actually, made a mistake in the film, a nanometer is a billionth of a meter, not a millionth. a millionth is a micrometer. most of us here have a pretty good sense of scale as some of us deal with similar sizes daily. especially those in the optics field.
Robin Hood Posted April 12, 2008 Author Posted April 12, 2008 in the film he says a millionth of a millimeter, not meter... does that still make him wrong?
thedarkshade Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 in the film he says a millionth of a millimeter, not meter... does that still make him wrong? No he got it right. A millionth of a millimeter([math]10^{-6}mm[/math]) is the same as a billionth of a meter ([math]10^{-9}m[/math]) and that is a nanometer.
