Can somebody explain this reaction???

Featured Replies

Please note: you're playing with explosives and high pressure. Making a small mistake can cost you an eye, a hand etc. Also keep pets away. Several incidents in the Netherlands in the last years have resulted in shops deciding not to sell Crofty and similar products to minors anymore (it is not law, it was just that dogs died, people miss an eye now and the shop doesn't want to be responsible).

Well... it's not my habit to explain about explosives, but to my surprise, the Dutch Wikipedia actually has an article about the Croftybomb. The longest (and last) paragraph on that article is about all the incidents with these things in the Netherlands.

The reaction is mentioned there (the reactions are also understandable for English speaking people).

Dutch law seems to regard the Croftybomb a normal explosive, which means that the punishment (law, in Dutch) is as heavy as when you're playing with other explosives.

if you ignore the fact that it`s a mechanical explosion and the liberated Hydrogen may catch fire after, the Worst part is the NaOH that get splattered everywhere, that stuff will Melt Your Face!

I agree: you first play with high pressure (the hydrogen that makes the bottle go boom), then with explosives (once the hydrogen is in the air it can explode in a secondary explosion) and if that wasn't enough, the NaOH is indeed very nasty stuff that will cause you to have scars wherever it touches you if you don't wash it off immediately. And if it gets into your eyes... actually I don't know for sure what happens, but I can imagine you go blind.

If you wanna play with bottles that do interesting stuff, let me recommend the bottle-rocket.

Also make sure to check some youtube movies about bottle rockets (there's lots of them).

It may look interesting in the first place, but don't try it, really. It's enough that you understand it!
