Firestarter Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Hi everyone. Im hoping someone can tell me speed, in MPH, of airflow from an extractor fan please. The extractor is 8inches (200mm) diameter. Figures says its 1600m3/hr. Any help greatly appreciated.
doG Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Is this homework help? You need to calculate the length of 8" pipe that would equal 1^3 meter and divide 1600 by that number to find the number of meters per hour that air is traveling. Then you can convert that to miles.
insane_alien Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 or just divide by the crosssectional area in m^2 to get m/s then convert that to miles per hour.

Hi doG. Many thanks for reply. Nope, its windtunnel help.... Set up a makeshift wind tunnel to test aerodynamic effect of new roof plug im doing. Was curious as to MPH of test, and how that may change with extra MPH. Extractor didnt have any tubing, other than the outlet: Sorry, i dont understand what "1^3" means.....
swansont Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Sorry, i dont understand what "1^3" means..... If I'm reading it right, it means "cubic" I think 1 m^3 would be the equivalent way of stating it.
doG Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 That's what I meant. Firestarter, how long of an 8" pipe, in miles, would it take to encompass 1600m^3? Since the hours cancel each other out in the division this length would be your answer.
Firestarter Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 Many thanks for all replies. I looked "^" said it meant something different.....so thanks for clarifying. Okay...i looked up values online. 1600(M^3) = 56503.4668 FT^3 1 foot of 8inch tubing is 0.349 cubic feet. Divided. Got: 161901.051002865. That equals= 30.6630miles. So, i guess thats the speed?
