Klaynos Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I'd not actually noticed that... http://www.press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago/284158_townes.html Is supposed to be the story of the first laser but it wont load for me atm.
swansont Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Yes and no. Cute. But geek pedantry gets in the way. If you can see laser beams from the side, your air isn't being filtered well enough.

Having gone to Laser Floyd many times, I can certainly attest to the problem of visible laser beams being thoroughly solved with fog machines.

doG Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Having gone to Laser Floyd many times, I can certainly attest to the problem of visible laser beams being thoroughly solved with fog machines. Do you mean "invisible" laser beams being solved with fog machines? If the beams were visible it would seem an air filter would have been a better solution than a fog machine.
a Clown Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Google have cool logos on holidays when I was a little younger I would save them into a folder because I was bored... I had quite a lot... They were original though

If the beams were visible it would seem an air filter would have been a better solution than a fog machine. Perhaps "making laser beams visible" is a better phraseology. That said, laser Floyd rules, and laser beams rock a billion times more when they're visible.
Klaynos Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 It's not a good thing to have your beams visible though, it's really bad!
doG Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 It's not a good thing to have your beams visible though, it's really bad! Why's that?
Klaynos Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 You lose intensity, and collimation in the beam if there's allot of scattering events.
doG Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 But you might want scattering events when they're used for a light show or something similar so sometimes visible is a good thing....
Klaynos Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 /me points to scienceforums.net But yeah light shows... That's why you want cloudy nights....
