aommaster Posted April 6, 2004 Author Posted April 6, 2004 yeah. Mods can't really do anything about it. The admin can add the feature in so that the mods can see it as well. Well, hope it works out good
Skye Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 I like being an unknown quantity, has a sort of mysterious feel to it. *disappears into the night*
aommaster Posted April 6, 2004 Author Posted April 6, 2004 Well, its no good for other members to tell them how good of a member u are!
-Demosthenes- Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 I think that only admins or mods should be able to add to reputaion, or maybe members that are aproved for it. My reputation would still be...ah...the same as it is now, but I think it might be a good idea.
iglak Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 if someone loses or gains points, do they see the comment? hehe, nm. i just checked my User CP and found a comment under "Latest Reputation Recieved". i didn't understand exactly what people were talking about until now...
swansont Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 It would be nice if you could vary the weight of feedback you give. Some posts are good but not great, and some are bad but not terrible. But if the system assigns the same point value for any recommendation (from a given user), you can't make that distinction.
aommaster Posted April 7, 2004 Author Posted April 7, 2004 yeah, it can have disasterous effects! Especially if someone like swansont disagrees with someone. HE HAS THREE GREEN DOTS!!! It would probably take out all the points a person has!
Sayonara Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Someone with a lot of reputation is likely to be more judicious with what they mete out.
swansont Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 yeah, it can have disasterous effects! Especially if someone like swansont disagrees with someone. HE HAS THREE GREEN DOTS!!! It would probably take out all the points a person has! That was part of my concern. I don't have the ability to nudge someone either way - it would be a shove. But it should be more than just disagreeing. I'm not about to ding somebody for having a different opinion or for an argument about semantics. It's going to have to be for bad science. And it's two dots at the moment. Somebody didn't like one of my answers.
YT2095 Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 what is this 1, 2 or 3 green dots thing? I`ve got 1 and it`s not changed, so I gather that`s a GOOD thing. but what are they?
aommaster Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 well, the higher the number of dots, the more effective u r, and the higher u stand. Its like a general scale. e.g. 1 dot = from 1 point to 100 points 2 dots= 101 points to 200 points etc. it just shows u where u lie!
iglak Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 umm... i was going to say something, but it turns out i was wrong, could a moderator delete this? this post has no meaning now.
Crash Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 This has just gone crazy.......So these are a measure of credability?
aommaster Posted April 9, 2004 Author Posted April 9, 2004 the dots? Yeah. The higher the dots, it shows others that you have a high number of points. Just a simple scale!
Sayonara Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 Can I just point out that the reputation system is not a popularity contest. You are supposed to be posting comments that tell the user in question where their strengths and defficiencies lie. The points provide an incentive to take notice, and also let other users gauge how 'authoritative' people are as a source. If people keep posting useless comments that don't tell us anything, post no comments at all, or use the reputation system as a bashing stick for people they don't 'like', then it's not going to work.

I wonder if there`s VB option to set that?
aommaster Posted April 10, 2004 Author Posted April 10, 2004 can u actually do that? increase or decreases a reputation point without adding a comment? I never tried that!
YT2095 Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 yeah, and most do I beleive. OR they leave something too oblique that`s of no help either.
aommaster Posted April 10, 2004 Author Posted April 10, 2004 hmmmm.... -150 points. For what? No comment! 1
Dave Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 I think that's a bit harsh to be honest, it's a heck of a lot of points to be taking off in one go without some kind of comment.
aommaster Posted April 10, 2004 Author Posted April 10, 2004 yeah. There must be a reason. Also, the people who take off or add oints, should be able to specify HOW MUCH they want to take off. Like said in the previous posts.
Dave Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 It does make a lot of sense to do that. I think perhaps making a comment should be mandatory, not just optional.
Sayonara Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 hmmmm.... -150 points. For what? No comment! There don't appear to be any negative comments on your reputation thingy. Where did "-150" come from?
