How to produce CO2

I want to prepare a liquid solution which when passed through a membrane contactor would release CO2. This CO2 will diffuse through pores of membrtanes and absorbed in another liquid

Please suggest me an appropriate liquid compound which would easily release CO2 on passing

Carbonated water is the first one that comes to mind for me.

 

BTW, you can buy CO2 in tanks for carbonating your own drinks at home. Could you not use these for your source?

when acids react with carbonates, they produce [ce]CO2[/ce] gas, so you could have some sort of acid as you liquid with a carbonate in your membrane. The only problem with that is that you have to have a membrane that won't be corroded by your acid. I actually saw something interesting the other day, can't remember where, but it was a glass filter :o It looked like a watch glass and had really really small holes in it. I don't know if those have been around forever and i'm just stupid (more probable) but I thought it looked cool. You'll have to use something like that or maybe teflon or something inert as your holder if you will use acid, unless you don't want it to last very long :)

 

I'm thinkin that there has to be a catalyst though that will do it for you. Like how [ce]H2O2[/ce] decomposes into water and oxygen over a silver catalyst.

2CO + O2 ==> 2CO2

[/ce]

 

but I forget the exact conditions through which this must take place (like heat, etc)

 

ps I've just learned to use the math funtion! can you tell ;) i'm pretty sure this stuff is right....
