I have been interested in a self powered magnet motor for some time. I am trying to get a good base plan but I am a little weak in the math of physics department.

my concept idea is a pull pull push idea using a triangle with unequal sides that spins in a circle and is gravity assisted

gravity would help with the longest arm which would be push

pull would assist the pendulum motion on the smaller sides with magnets on the up swing to get the magnet past the gate which would prevent the magnet from pushing again.

the shorter side would be just long enough to pull on the magnet and give the longer arm enough force to whip past and be pushed again.

I was also thinking if centrifical force can be applied to have the magnet bypass the attract side and get pulled back in with a spring to the push side

ps pardon spelling

If I've understood your diagrams correctly, it'll get slower and stop... depending on the environment will depend how many oscillations you get before it stops.

Let's move this to Engineering to start. If you don't get a good answer there we can move on to Physics.

I think maybe you should just create a Perpetual Motion forum and move it there. Then you could just put a sticky post at the top that explains why these things won't work. From then on you could just move these posts there and forget about 'em.

An engine is not an engine if you don't have an input of energy (power = energy / time).

The most common ones are:

Combustion engines: fuel

Electric engines: electricity

Other alternatives for power can be:

Compressed gas (e.g. Air),

Muscle power (you or an animal)

Please note that things such as a spring, elastic or magnetism are by themselves no source of power. Take the example of a spring: you have to apply power before it will return the power.

Force of habit. I usually move these things to Engineering so it doesn't bother the physicists. :D

Not a bad idea though. Eventually it will gain the stigma that Speculations has with the crackpot-types, but I like the idea of a sticky that hopefully cuts down on the number of times we have to remind people that friction and gravity actually exist.

I think it's part of growing up: everyone has a moment where they think that the 1st law of thermodynamics applies only to stupid designers, but not to their stroke of brilliance.
