swansont Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 OMG, our calendar ends in December! Does that mean the end is near? And besides, the world was supposed to end earlier this week. ——— Moved to GD, question mark redundancy reduced.
Reaper Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 I remember that the world ended back in 2000, with the coming of the Y2K bug.
CDarwin Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 OMG, our calendar ends in December! Does that mean the end is near? Well the Mayans are pretty talented at knowing when they're screwed. They should be, they've had some experience. Oooh, ethnological slam. I'm very bored; I'm sorry.
JohnB Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 And besides, the world was supposed to end earlier this week. June 12th???? I'd better get ready, don't want to miss it.......Oh, wait.

Royston Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 The only significance 2012 will have, is that people will stop starting these annoying threads.
Gilded Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 The only significance 2012 will have, is that people will stop starting these annoying threads. ...until someone decides the Mayans could've been off by a 5 year margin and builds a cult around it. There will always be people who desperately want the world to end. (I.e. Christians)
Ladeira Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 I'd like the idea of end.. (and it's something I also said in another thread like this one). There must be a rule in this forum like "Prohibited to make a thread in order to say that the world is going to end in 2012"..
insane_alien Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 well, until experimental observations are carried out (due to temporal constraints this will need to wait till 2012) it is entirely possible that the world COULD end in 2012
ydoaPs Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Let's not forget the Bible Code says the world will end in 2012.
the tree Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 (I.e. Christians)I'm fairly sure that should be an 'e.g.', which translates as 'for example'. 'i.e.' means 'in other words'.
Phi for All Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I was down in the Mayan Riviera last month. I heard nothing about it. I wish I'd mentioned it to someone there. I'm sure they would have smirked at anyone who took it seriously. They're still building lots of hotels and resorts.
the tree Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Presumably, they use the Gregorian calender over there as well?
Reaper Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Presumably, they use the Gregorian calender over there as well? They (Mexico and the rest of Central America) have been using the Gregorian calendar for much longer than the U.S. or Great Britain.
Kiddy Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Ok, according to our favorite local ufologist (who claims he has mayans roots), the 2012 is not going to be the end of the world: is the year we´ll make contact with the alien civilization that has visiting us for centuries. According with the local new age groups that also use mayan prophecies to win some extra cash, it will be about " the birth of a new mankind (in spirit of course). So, we had three choices to decide what are we gonna do that year. I wont recomment to pay a visit to the archeologycal sites, though
Gilded Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I'm fairly sure that should be an 'e.g.', which translates as 'for example'. 'i.e.' means 'in other words'. Ah indeed, as there's a whole bunch of other people who want the world to end. And Christians aren't even the worst of them.
Phi for All Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 The OP is having trouble accessing this thread to reply. Is anyone else having problems?
