Joomla vs. Drupal

Looking for opinions about which software would be the best to use. I'm trying to convince the other editors to redesign the site for our Uni's newspaper. Right now, we're using College publisher (which is a god awful program - little freedom, terrible layout, etc).

 

I'm a complete newb and web-based programming, though my brother has some experience, and I will most likely be conscripting his help.

 

It seems as if Joomla is easier to use, but Drupal gives you a lot more functionality. I'd rather get the interface that Drupal could provide, and the better admin accessability side of things, but I don't have 1000 man hours to devote.

 

Any thoughts?

Another option is Textpattern. It's simple, but someone with PHP skills can add on to it very easily and make it do almost anything. I set it up to do http://www.dbunked.com with a custom plugin or two and very little work.

I had heard that the BBC does as well. While I wouldn't need to produce a website anywhere near the size and scope of the Onion, I'm also working with just my brother with little experience (my brother knows php though).

I've used drupal and joomla, and for quickly setting up a basic site I'd say joomla is the way to go... As for drupal having more features/extensions I'd say they're just different. Drupal has things like the ability to comment on articles out of the box, where as joomla doesn't... Pick the one with the feature set closest to what you need and just find extensions to do anything else...
