When will we have the technology to alter our faces in ways modern day cosmetic surgery cant?

The technology in question would likely be (but does not have to be) nanobots that can "break down" the face (flesh and bone) and re-build it atom by atom exactly how the person wants. Although if you can think of other alternatives (that could come sooner) thats fine too.

Can you define this a bit further? Are you talking about different techniques to more easily (less recovery time) or less expensively do what modern day cosmetic surgery can do, or are you talking about something more drastic, like being able to look any way you want to? If the latter, there would be some legal issues, like mandatory implants that would quickly identify us. Also, given the current penchant for altering the body with piercings and tattoos, I could easily see fads developing that would make an individual stand out from the crowd... more.

Yes, look almost any way you wanted is what i mean...and i wouldn't mind implants that could identify us.

Im not talking about being able to add non human parts or anything crazy like that. But still im talking about something that could DRASTICLY change someone's face...like be able to go FROM:

TO:

It would probabily require the ability to break down the entire face and skull and rebuild it, atom by atom. (throwing away the excess i guess). Or maybe it could be just putting the brain in another (artificial?) body alltogether...but the earlier of the two seems more likely.

As i mentioned before it would probabily be nanotechnology that could get us there. Given the exponential advancement in nanotechnology im HOPEFUL this will be possible around 2025-2030, but maybe thats wishful thinking on my part. If the predictions of futurologist Ray Kurzweil are correct it should be somewhere in that time-frame that but alot of peolpe think his predictions are a bit optomistic.

That sort of transformation isn't too far off from what's possible with present day plastic surgery.

uh, are you joking?

That shows ALOT of changes in ratios and features that present day plastic surgery can NOT change...for example:

Eye to skull ratio

Skull length

Eye color

Iris size

Overall the skulls of the two examples are COMPLETELY different and while you can shave down some parts of the skull theres limits on how much you can shave down. Theres also limits on how much you can get implanted. And even with all the different skin procedures out there...you can not make a 60 year old's skin look like a 20 year old's...

Theres FAR too many limits with modern day surgery. BUT if we had nanomachines that could break down and rebuild the entire face and skull, atom by atom, there would be almost no limit to what you could do.
