NewType Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 I am currently a junior high school student at my high school in the US. I have just started my shopping of colleges recently. My most preferred major would be genetics, mainly human genetic engineering or biotechnology. As you may have guessed by now, I am quite clueless . all of the colleges I have looked at so far offer only a Masters or a Doctorate degree in genetics. What are the prerequisites necessary to enroll in a graduate program of genetics? Or if you can, post some colleges that do offer a bachelors program. Just another random question, how relevant is physics to genetics? Any help to guide this newbie high school student would be greatly appreciated. (I just noticed that this seems to be a euro-forum, european colleges would be helpful too since I am also enrolled in the IB program)
blike Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 Well, most programs in genetics are graduate programs. I'm sure there are some universities which have a genetics BSc, but not any that I know of. If you want to go into the genetics field, you will need a masters or PhD to get anywhere. Most people will major in something like biology, chemistry, or biochem, and then go on to a graduate genetics program. btw, this forum has people from all over the place!
