Mitt Romney is, IMO, a very credible candidate for the VP spot. He's obviously smart & competent, actually, I now think he was a better candidate than McCain (from the republican side, at least).

 

Apparently, this guy, Bobby Jindal, is a serious candidate. He's pro life with no exceptions (his words), he supports creationism/ID in the classroom, and he supposedly encountered a demon and practiced an exorcism (Jindall, B. 1994. "Physical Dimensions of Spiritual Warfare", New Oxford Review).

McCain also made a surprise visit to Louisiana on Monday, and has a secret announcement planned for Thursday in New Orleans, timed to coincide with Obama's Berlin speech. The speech is being touted by McCain workers as intended to steal some of Obama's thunder.

Obama's VP choice is largely irrelevant. Obama is young, and I can probably count with no fingers the number of tie-breaker votes a Democratic VP is going to have to make in a Senate that will be well over 50% Democratic.

 

On the other hand, McCain's VP choice is critical. There is a good chance he won't make it through a grueling four year presidency. Should he pick the wrong choice (e.g., someone who supports teaching creationism in public schools), I might well have to rethink my current rather strong leaning toward McCain.
