Garrettguy457 Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 If i had an electromagnetic field roughly 6 feet tall and i "shot" a particle that had the same charge as the field (they want to repel), would the particle go through? Do we have strong enough E.M. fields to stop particles with identical charges to the field from passing through?
ajb Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 The electromagnetic field does not have a charge. What you need to have a look at is the so called Lorentz force. You can trap charged particles using magnetic fields, via the Penning trap.
Garrettguy457 Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 wait so i couldnt charge that E.M. field?
Klaynos Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 EM fields are a result of charge, they are not themselves charged.
