Genecks Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 (edited) K. I want to know https part of scienceforums.net Why can't I use a permanent certificate? I don't like the temporary one. kthxbye. #_# Edited July 29, 2008 by Genecks
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Permanent certificates cost several hundred bucks to get from a certificate authority. Self-signed temporary ones are free. There's no difference in terms of security except you have no easy verification of if the certificate is actually from "us".
Dave Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Capn's quite right: for example, VeriSign charge $400/year for an SSL certificate, which is something that we could rightly do without.
the tree Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 I can't imagine a forum account being particularly high on your list of priorities either.
