Both of these symptoms result from damage to the auditory nerves. I have had these two since 2002. Recently I have stopped listening to music, stopped listening to the TV, and stopped using the telephone, in addition to avoiding loud noises, and the symptoms seem to be diminishing. Has anyone ever known of a case as mine? Is this gradual diminishing real or simply a temporary illusion?

From what I've heard about such conditions, the damage caused to result in them occuring is pretty much permanante. I haven't heard of the inner ear being able to repair itself.

Of course, the other thought that has occured to me is the fact that you've removed a lot of the noises you normally hear in your day to day life. Perhaps hearing only the sound of Tinnitus often has made you less sensitive to it. Although, that's probably unlikely considering how long you've had the conditions.

But temporary tinnitus goes away. So maybe what seems to be permanent can simply need more time.

As it get lower I become accustomed to it and I am still annoyed by it. But it keeps getting lower. Hopefully it will continue to do so. I would not mind being the first person to make a full recovery.
