iNow Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) I'm out at my girlfriends parents house relaxing for the weekend. It's a quiet farm outside the city and is really nice and peacful. While flipping through the channels this morning, I stumbed across a channel I don't get at my house called "Link." On it, they were showing a film called, "Nobelity." I decided to leave it on when I saw Steven Weinberg speaking, as he's someone whose voice I've learned to trust through the years. It's amazing. Very well done, and eye opening. Here is the trailer: I searched for the full film online, but did not find it. The closest I could find was this (where each Laureates discussion is available and split into sections, but not pulled together like the film): http://www.nobelity.org/video.html Here's their website: http://www.nobelitythemovie.com/events/nobelity.html Featuring Nobel Laureates: Steven Weinberg, Jody Williams, Ahmed Zewail, Rick Smalley, Wangari Maathai, Sir Joseph Rotblat, Dr. Harold Varmus, Desmond Tutu, Amartya Sen A Film by Turk Pipkin A stunning look at the world’s most pressing problems through the eyes of nine Nobel Laureates, Nobelity follows filmmaker Turk Pipkin’s personal journey to find enlightening answers about the kind of world our children and grandchildren will know. Filmed across the U.S., and in France, England, India, and Africa, Nobelity Combines The Insights of nine distinguished Nobelists with a first-person view of world problems and the children who are most challenged by them. For more information visit The Nobelity Project at www.nobelity.org. Our children's future is in your hands. The television channel "Link" has a site about it, too: http://www.linktv.org/programs/nobelity Has anyone seen this? Does anyone have an interest in seeing it? (If so, looks like you can rent it here) Edited August 30, 2008 by iNow
iNow Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Okay. Maybe nobody has seen it. Oh well. Along similar lines, a talk from 20 years ago with Carl Sagan discussing the major issues of the day. From Blake over at Science After Sunclipse: Want to feel depressed over how little progress we have made as a society and as science educators over the past twenty years? Watch Carl Sagan being interviewed by Ted Turner: Video at the link.
