unjustified
just had some thoughts on the issue of higgs and dark matter/energy. consciousness (not individual but universal) is pretty much energy. In terms of quantum physics it could be said that it is consciousness that collapses waves of potential matter in to localizable real matter. Furthermore it is energy (consciousness) that holds separate particles together. If i am not mistaken it is upon joining that the elementary particles gain mass. Could it be consciousness instead of higgs that provides mass, also could this be related to dark matter/energy. Although this is probably utter nonsense to a physicist it must be remembered that our entire reality occurs within consciousness. It is the most fundamental and indubitable property of reality. Martin
un-jay, No apologies needed! this is an excellent speculation. I edited out the un-called-for apologies and put in a descriptive heading so people could tell by the title the sort of thing you are talking about. don't feel bashful. this speculation is actually a philosophically sophisticated idea. Respectable philosophers have imagined that perhaps consciousness is the root cause of everything---space, time, matter, the qualities of matter etc what you might think about is how to set up an experiment to test this idea. that is the traditional litmus test for scientific theories. some predictive or empirical content. unfortunately not everybody honors that tradition but we can at least try. insane_alien
you will also want to devise a test that proves your assumption that conciousness is energy(and define conciousness as well). if your assumptions don't stand then it is certain that the rest is nothing more than a fairytale
unjustified
is this a tenable position: the singularity is pure energy and this is also pure consciousness/awareness/being. for some reason the singularity expands and in this process energy is released and mass arises. insane_alien
you are the one proposing the theory. you must provide the supporting evidence.
bascule
Please note that mass is a physical property and consciousness is metaphysical. If you wish to attribute physical properties to consciousness you must first describe what consciousness is in physical terms.

The study of conciousness is the going to be the next big thing and will change our understanding of reality more than relativety or quantum physics. Just wait n see!
