Gravimetric Analysis

I understand this analysis type, but this stupid pre-lab question is eluding me!

 

"Mass measurements of the crucible, lid, and sample are performed only at room temperature. Why is this technique necessary for a gravimetric analysis?"

 

Now, is it b.c. at room temperature we can be sure that the tests are consistent when we measure? Thanks for any insight

the scales were likely calibrated at room temperature. thermal expansion can cause them to give false readings especially if you are taking very accurate measurements.
