Do this until the reaction stops and then in a fume hood evaporate your leftover solution. Do you still need us to tell you 1) Fill a beaker with HCl. 2) Add your NaOH...etc? jdurg Posted September 23, 2008 Share Posted September 23, 2008 Yes, but you'll still have water present if you do this in an aqueous solution. I would work in a vacuum chamber where all air is replaced with nitrogen gas. This will prevent any water from being present and any CO2 from turning the NaOH into NaHCO3. Then, take a very fine powder of NaOH, and place a great deal of HCl gas into it. After some time, the HCl will react with the NaOH forming NaCl and some H2O. So in reality, you can never have absolutely dry NaCl since the reaction itself produces an equimolar amount of H2O. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
