hydraliskdragon Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Would it be possible to cultivate Clostridium Botulinum from common soil? I understand that it grows in an anarobic system. Would soil suspended in Canola Oil be put into a centrifuge to seperate Botulinum from organic matter? And in what enviroment does it grow the best in?
CharonY Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Would it be possible to cultivate Clostridium Botulinum from common soil? Not just from any soil. I understand that it grows in an anarobic system. Would soil suspended in Canola Oil be put into a centrifuge to seperate Botulinum from organic matter? No. Why should it? And per definitionem the bacterium itself is organic matter.... And in what enviroment does it grow the best in? I am hesitant to give further information as C. botulinum is a biosafety level (BSL) 2 organism, and in situations where toxin production is expected even BSL3. Moreover, i think that it may fall under certain bioweapon laws. I will assume that this was an innocent question, but no further details should be given at this point imo.
