Aldarion Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I understand that copper(II) chloride reacts with copper metal in conc. HCl to eventually produce colourless [CuCl2]-. Can anyone tell me what is the role of copper in this reaction? I'm also wondering how do you get a balanced equation out of all that. Thanks much.
Tartaglia Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 The copper metal is a one electron reductant The equation Cu +CuCl2 +2Cl- --> 2 [CuCl2]-
