Dudde Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 You guys are some wacky smart people, what technical certifications have you accumulated over the years? My workplace encourages (and almost demands) that you constantly study for and get certified for different things, and will even pay for most! But I stopped going for those things years ago - if you have any secrets to studying, let me know! There's a trainer at my workplace with a good 16 or 17, what a jerk!
Pangloss Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I've got a goodly chunk of these suckers myself, including certs from Microsoft (MCSE, MCT), CompTIA (CTT+, A+), Cisco, Novell, etc. It was all the rage in the late 1990s, adding so much money to your income it was amazing. I also did the corporate training thing for a while, back when you could rake in $750-$1000 a DAY telling people how to reset passwords in Windows Server. Crazy times. Today I think it's more of a base expectation in certain fields. A minimum job requirement. There are a lot of study guides -- those can be helpful. I also remember using testing software a few times, that would put questions on the screen and give you a certain amount of time to answer. There are also cheat guides that give actual exam questions, but those are pretty dubious and inconsistent from what I hear.
Dudde Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 Thanks Pangloss! I agree with the study tests that have the answers, I prefer the method that makes you look to find your answers, instead of providing a method for rote memorization (in which everything you learn shall be forgotten two weeks later anyway) I remember a few years back I was able to actually take and score my CCNA and A+ exams, unfortunately I couldn't front the money, and so never received credit! It used to be funny until I realized I had to take them again:mad: I've been thinking about heading toward security or encryption, which has always fascinated me - any suggestions?
