ydoaPs Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 There's a chance I'll meet both G Bushs and maybe even Obama in 3 weeks. I'll at least see them on the ship. I'll report back with my take on any speeches(unless, of course, I'm on watch during them).
iNow Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Are you in charge of hanging the Mission Accomplished banner? That's pretty sweet, dude. I hope you enjoy the experience.
Pangloss Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 (Is this subject line ok? I saw that Phi already changed it once but I thought it was still a little confusing.) That's cool, I hope you get a good photo.
Sayonara Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Make sure you have an awesome question lined up in case you get to speak to Bush.
Pangloss Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 With regard to the above, the unmarried one is "Barbara". Not Jenna. You'll want to be clear on that point.
thedarkshade Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Keep your shoes on your feet, dude. Unless he wants to be called a hero:-p
Phi for All Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 After reading about Bush's little Wall Street loophole, I change my mind about the shoes. Wear your greed-seeking steel-toes and let fly.
swansont Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 After reading about Bush's little Wall Street loophole, I change my mind about the shoes. Wear your greed-seeking steel-toes and let fly. That would lead to one being out of uniform. On several levels, not a career-enhancing move. 1
John Cuthber Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Wear your uniform shoes, just take the others to throw. I note that Phi for All's position on shoe throwing is a scientific one, rather than dogmatic because he is prepared to alter it in the light of evidence.

And since he recommends steel-toed shoes, he's not a flip-flopper. [beats hasty retreat]
ydoaPs Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 I have no idea where I'm gonna be during the ceremony. I'll probably either be in the plant or hiding in the hanger bay. I went on leave today, so I won't know until the 30th.
Mr Skeptic Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Just out of curiosity, in cultures where people make a statement by throwing a shoe, is that like telling someone to "shoo" or telling them they'd do different if they were in their shoes?
Pangloss Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I always figured it was more like the implication that they're "walking all over them".
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Showing the bottoms of your shoes to someone is considered a great insult in their culture because they're the lowest part of you and considered dirty. Throwing your shoes at someone seems a logical extension of that.
npts2020 Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Many in the crowd when the Marines pulled down the statue of Saddam were throwing their shoes at the statue. Here is a good description of the shoe throwing incident with some brief commentary. Apparently that brand of shoes is selling like hotcakes in the Arab world. Do you think if somebody backed over GWB in an SUV Tahoes and Explorers would start selling again?
ydoaPs Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 So, was this today perchance? ......maybe...... It should be on TV right now. I'm on the aft part of the flight deck just forward of the missile launcher.
iNow Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Sweet, dude. I think this link is it: http://origin.eastbaymedia.com/~nmc/asx/uss-bush/uss-bush-011008.asx Except, it's not live.
