osaka Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 does XeF2 have polarity? Actaully,XeF2 have 6 unshare electrons. the molecule would be polar.maybe not?
alext87 Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Yeah i think that it still would! i try and find out for sure. GOOD QU.
budullewraagh Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 yeah, it's polar. the electronegativity of F is greater than that of Xe. it's polar.
Pethorr Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I think it's non-polar!!! According to VSEPR theory, the three lone pairs occupy the equatorial positions in a trigonal bipyrimidal geometry, this makes the shape of the molecule linear meaning that it doesn't possess a permanent dipole-moment.
blike Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I agree with Pethorr. Xe will have 3 lone pairs and two bonded pairs which results in a linear conformation.
Crash Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Yip, non-polar VESPR dosent work 100% (as with msot things in chem;)
