Music, Classical

Big fan of film composers (which I count as classical) like John Williams. My favourite 'proper' classical composer would probably be someone like Mozart or Beethoven, although they can be quite dull at times.

Can also play Moonlight Sonata :)

yes, I used to be able to but am long out of practice :(

I`ve writen quite a few peices of musik and songs (I was in a band for 3 years during my early 20`s).

I still like to play occasionaly, but only for my own and my wifes pleasure, I think she must be tone deaf though LOL :)

I`ve got a pic of my Synths somewhere, I`ll see if I can dig them out, if not I`ll take some more if ya like, it`s especialy cool when I plug my elec guitar into them and mess about with the sounds :)

My all time favorite composer: J. S.Bach.

Some of the others whom I love: Mozart, Bethoven, Vivaldi, Correli, Bhrams, Strauss, Mahler, too many others.

Basically, I love anything that is erroneously deemed classical with the exception of English and German Operas.

I had to play part of a Mahler symphony for my Grade 8 piece so I've gotten into his style of music quite a lot. Also had to play a piece by Guilmant, so I've listened to a bit of his stuff. Debussy is also one of my favourites, especially his piano pieces.

I really think that the way he can go from one theme to another so smoothly is absolutely outstanding. My favourite example from this is probably at the end of episode 2, where he somehow manages to take the tune from the love theme to the end credits - absolutely brilliant :)

I'm assuming you're are talking about John Williams. A lot of his songs are very simple, and that's what I like about them. I have heard several that rely on just three or four notes for the entire melody. They are still great songs. One of my favorites is his Schindler's List theme, although it uses more than four notes for the melody, it uses some unique intervals instead. It's all very good stuff.

The Harry Potter theme is (imo) one of the best ever created; it fits the films perfectly

Would that be counted as classical music, or juts a soundtrack? 'Cause the classical music I was talking about was about 200 years ago :)

It's just about the same thing as any classical composer would have had access to, only styles change. The use of chord structure, note spacing, methodic vs. expressive styling have all changed even within what you are refering to as the classical period. There were many like the romantic and boroque that were very different because times changed. I would say that John Williams is just an extension of this into the 20th and now 21st century (albeit one the few).
