Can some people tell me what you work as (science) and what qualificaions you have? Im seriously interested in a career in science and would like to know what the industry is really like. And do any labs let you do work experiance there?

There were quite a few people that went to places like Manor Hospital and such when we were on work experience. I daresay that quite a few labs would welcome people interested in seeing what goes on in there - or at least I hope they would in regards to promoting science.

this is rather vague and probably you won't get a better answer then the one above w/o a further distinction.

but as said above me, there are many fields that you can go, obviously a teacher(BS), professor(Ph.D) of science the 1st thing that come to mind to anybody.

but many fields overlap and interlap and somethings make no sence.

for example, a geologist may not only teach college/university, but also go and spend his/her life doing research or diggin' fossils. or he/she can go and work for an oil company and help them figure out the next best place to dig.

i've know quite a few paleontologists who did that, well, not personally.

also, economy and economists are scientists. then there are the psychologists, medical doctors, biologists, etc. you can work for a state/government in many fields including anthropology, etc.

one of the very new degree programs that has just oppend up in my university is Forensic Anthropology (can work for/with morticians, police, fbi, or anybody else that require the services of a forensic scientist, etc) - mmm, yammy (i think i'll just stick to biological anthropology, but thanks anyway ;) ) .......

they also publish books and review books and research, etc.

physicists may help design new weapons or technological marvels, etc.

the fields of study and careers are limitless.

also answer this, are you thinking in terms of Science or Profits?

some scientists started their own corporations only to then relinquish control of them and go back to study/research/teach because of their love of science and not political beuracrassy or business, etc.

once again, for a better answer, state what interests you the most and you'll get a much better answer ;)

well mostly chemistry (in a lab), but other areas like forensics, nuclear/radiation, medicine, i can see it is still very vague but im at the age where i have to start thinking. isnt anthropology like bones? also do normal hospitles have labs that would let me do work exp? or is there labs all over england that specialise in different areas?

Not really. Anthropology is broken up into 4 major cattegories:

Linguistic Anth.

Biological(Physical) Anth.

Archaeology - This is bones(human and primate) and ancient civilization.

Cultural Anth.

You're thinking of Paleontology(any fossils, but this field is mostly famous for Dinasour fossils) which is very closely related, but it's under the umbrella of Geology not Anthropology ;)

dunno about england, not from there, but shouldn't be any difference then here in USA, so yeah. ;)

it may be best for you to check on this with your local university because in a hospital there would be very little room for error and they'll probably require some experience.

I do physics research, and my job requires a PhD, simply because you can't currently get the relevant exerience anywhere else. But lots of research establishments have internships; it depends on the specific job. I know of programs that take in high school students and others that take college students to do work for a semester or for the summer. College internships often don't pay much (or anything) but you get course credit for it.

Most hospitals have some kind of lab for results for various tests that are needed for patients. If you want to find out whether your local hospitals would let you do work experience in the labs, just give them a ring and find out (or get your school to do it :)).

thanks guys. ill either get my teacher to see if theres any local labs or theyll get me in at the hospitle, and if it comes to worst ill ask if i can be a lab tech at school. its just a fact that some places just make you make coffee for everyone which i dont want.

You'll learn something about work from whatever you get to do. More than likely you'll get the menial jobs (basically because they can make you do those without having to pay you) - but sometimes, to give you experience of what it's going to be like, you get some less menial work to do.

The only problem with doing lab work is that if you're just about to start GCSEs, you'll find that some of the work will probably be quite challenging to understand. But sometimes throwing you in at the deep end can also be quite useful :)

Wish you luck finding something to do.
