As on previous threads im running with the same theme the use of spectral

enhancement and parabolics . If we were to dispense with winter light shortage or defecit and use spectral space enhancement by prismaic magnification we could certainly have the G.M.T. light realignment and reduce

energy and allow further production of food , we could in effect control the weather . The use of refraction and prisms in space and parabolic reflector could be used to illiminate light deprevation if we were to shift the water across to were it is needed then the less productive areas of the globe could become more self sufficient in energy and food production we could theoretically produce micro climates in regions that are as of today rendered

unproductive areas for food production . The amount of extra solar energy

harnessed by specifically enhanced fields could easily be transported around the globe , lets hard wire the earth ? What do you think ?

Is it necessary? How much will it cost?

more to the point, how can we afford the energy expenditure when we are in an energy crisis?

not to mention the fact that if we increase the energy influx from the sun then global warming will skyrocket. and we're not talking a few degrees C but several tens.

The earth has natural cycles of cooling so were not talking about overheating the planet but if we reduce carbon emmisions the real cooling mechanisms can kick back in .

Do we really want to save the planet and is money really that important ?

yes, the earth can cool, as it there is insignificant mass transfer onto or off of the earth this means it can only cool radiatively. this typically happens on the night side of earth, lighting this up or even just increasing the light to the day side wil increase the equilibrium temperature and on this scale it will increase it dramatically. in a few years the global average temperature could be up around 50*C.

[...] we could in effect control the weather . [...]

I don't think it's a good idea to attempt to control the weather. Weather systems are the size of a continent. Influence it locally, and somebody a few hundred or a few thousand kilometers away is going to be upset with you.

You would disrupt the weather systems. We don't even completely understand the climate right now with only one major source of heating (sun). I can imagine that it would have a destabilizing effect if you increase the temperature locally (thereby also increasing vaporization).

Of course it all depends on the scale of the project and the light intensity.

But I would definitely advise against significantly shining more sunlight on earth. Check out Venus or Mercury to see the effects of that...

There are far more simplistic solutions the problem of energy and food shortage. Either increase their supply or decrease their demand. The former is challenging, but the latter isn't.

heh-heh. Thats what I get for not being specific. The questions were about the means not the goal. The question should have been; Is there no alternative method that might be cheaper and more effective?
