vedmecum Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 yesterday my friend gave me a beautiful cut on my palm and as nature's rule blood .... my teacher advised me to apply FeCl3 an it really works . i don; know how ? please suggest me an appropriate ans . thanks:eyebrow:
Mokele Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 According to the MSDS of that chemical, it's corrosive and painful, so it's probably not a good idea to apply to wounds. The clotting effect is probably just due to the powdery nature of the substance giving the platelets something to hold onto and form a clot faster.
vedmecum Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 thanks And i don't think so that was because of adsorption because then any finely divided powder (if accepted by body immunity ) can act as blood coagulant . is it so ?
Mokele Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Yep, pretty much any sort of powder will help clot blood. Or even non-powders that have enough absorbancy to draw out the fluid and leave a mass of platelets to start the clot. That's why little scraps of toilet paper stop the bleeding from shaving cuts.
John Cuthber Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 It's also fairly acidic so it may goagulate proteins in the blood.
vedmecum Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 i think it is not because of acidic nature of FeCl3 because i added to drop of dil. HCl to 5 drops of blood and i hadn't observed any change .
