Royston Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) The title speaks for itself. So please share your favourite stand-up comedian / comedienne, and a few words (if you like) why they're your particular favourite. If available (which is an almost guarantee with youtube), share some clips. My all time favourite, is possibly the late Bill Hicks, mainly for his tenacity and opinions which define his act. I'm also a massive fan of Bill Bailey (being a musician myself) I love the amalgamation of music and comedy, as well as his style. However, my current favourite (probably more suitable to a British audience) is Michael McIntyre, who's delivery is amazing IMO, and for me, has rebranded observational comedy, and doesn't rely on sniping, like so many acts do these days. Here he his 'Live at the Apollo.'...it's in three parts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd--6cWBIVU&feature=related Edited February 13, 2009 by Snail Links
Kaeroll Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I used to like Michael McIntyre on Mock the Week but have never seen his stand-up. My favourites are probably Eddie Izzard (who I am finally going to see this year!), Bill Bailey, Bill Hicks (RIP), and Ricky Gervais. Quite like Frankie Boyle and Ed Byrnes too. Kaeroll
Royston Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 I forgot about Eddie Izzard, incidentally (we seem to be watching a lot of stand-up in our house recently) my housematess recently bought the Bill Bailey compilation. He's now reached the dizzy heights of Wembley, and rightly so, 'Tinselworm', if you havn't seen it.
Kaeroll Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I saw Tinselworm when he toured it round the UK. Didn't know he'd played Wembley though - impressive! As it happens I also got the compilation recently (after much borrowing of friends' dvds) Kaeroll
devrimci_kürt Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 It changes frequently but,for now,cem yılmaz...so so
npts2020 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I liked Jimmy Durante but wouldn't know where to get any of his actual stand-up routines other than what was on tv.
ParanoiA Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 (edited) George Carlin and Bill Hicks are definitely my favorites on the RIP list. Loved their opinionated indictment of the human race. Eddie Izzard is a recent discovery for me. Really enjoyed his Dress to Kill special, especially the world history related stuff. One of my favorites has always been Lewis Black. I guess I just really like the "angry" comedian because most of my favorites are doing comedy dressed in a rant. There's tons of Lewis Black stuff, here's a teaspoon full. Lewis Black on Starbucks (a classic): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9iMgSNrwv4 Lewis Black on hunting (Dick Cheney slam included!): "These people are watching the Flinestones, as if it were a documentary" - Lewis on people who believe the dinosaurs and man lived together. john5746 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 I love stand-up, hard to pick just a few. Robin Williams Sam Kinison
ParanoiA Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Oh, I so miss Sam Kinison. I loved the routine where he'd pick someone from the audience and call their ex-girlfriend to verbally abuse them.
Royston Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Lewis Black on Starbucks (a classic): Thankyou Paranoia, never seen it, and quite literally lmao. So whilst reattaching my bottom, I thought I'd make this post, very cool.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Z-O4mJKEEqQ Find some of his other stuff on YouTube. He's brilliant.
padren Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 A lot of people find him offensive and he's definitely NSFW but I have to say I really enjoy . That's one of his tamer bits.
Dudde Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 My favorite comedians have always been George Carlin and Robin Williams - recently I'm come to learn Eddie Izzard and Christopher Titus, both hilarious guys.
ennui Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 My favourite stand-up comedian is Alan Carr. I watched his DVD Tooth Fairy and I actually nearly wet myself.
YT2095 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Paul Merton, Emo Philips for sure, Rita Rudner`s a giggle too.
CaptainPanic Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Theo Maassen (Dutch). His show called "functioneel naakt" is awesome... for Dutch speaking people. Are ventriloquists stand-up comedians when they address the audience as well as... eehm... themselves? Jeff Dunham is pretty good (and English speaking).
