How would you rate Obama and the Democratic Party's attempts at bipartisanship?

  1. 1. How would you rate Obama and the Democratic Party's attempts at bipartisanship?

    • The Democrats have been ineffective in reaching out to the Republicans
    • The Republicans have been ineffective in compromising with the Democrats
    • The stimulus bill is a shining example of bipartisanship

    • I don't have an opinion. I just felt like voting.

I don't mean to dwell on Florida politics, btw, I just think it's an interesting example of some politicking that is probably taking place along similar lines in a lot of states right now.

Not at all. I quite appreciate your comments. That's part of the reason I brought up Crist specifically. He's really doing the right thing, I think it's unfair the criticisms being lobbed his way, and I knew you'd be able to offer some perspective. Cheers. :)

The answer to this seems so obvious to me. Erase all the concessions to the Republicans from the bill, since they can pass it without them. Let the Republicans think on that for a while, and maybe the Democrats can earn some of their support by putting the concessions back in the bill. If not, at least it will balance the Republican bailout that was already what Republicans wanted.

In a vacuum, this would certainly appear to be the best approach. However, I don't think it's very practical, as I'm pretty sure the administration was serious when they said they want to work with republicans in the future. By "erasing all the concessions to republicans in the bill," then they would really be sewing the seed for some serious bad blood and resistance on all future projects and legislation they try to push through.

So, I do like your answer, and it would probably be the best one if this were the only legislation that would ever be under debate, but when taken in context of future needs, I think that Obama really out-manouvered them by taking the high road here, and probably made his future work and legislative wants/wishes a bit simpler by not pissing on them so early on when it would have been so easy to do.

So I mentioned Jindal the other day (who gave a ridiculous Republican response to the Obama's speech tonight, but whatever) who said he'd refuse federal funding since it goes against his republican ideals when on Meet the Press this weekend.

Anyway, it seems that The Daily Show had something to say about his hypocrisy on this.

He was offered $3.8 billion. His ideals will only allow him to accept a little over $3.7 billion.

And some people still wonder why people don't take republicans seriously...

After over a week of pondering, I finally voted.

The Republicans have been ineffective in compromising with the Democrats got the vote.

It's been too close to call; almost a neck and neck tie.

The final tally was 50.00001% to 49.99999% after several hanging chads were thrown out and a box of absentee ballots were discovered.

I still have not counted the military absentee ballots and, along with our tradition, do not intend to.

I think that my 90 second daily dose of Hannity swayed the vote in favor of the Dems trying to share their toys with the Repubs, but the Repubs refusing to play.

If it had been longer, say 2 or 3 mins, the margin of victory certainly would have been much higher.

My 5 min drive home with left wing radio may sway my preference back a ten thousandths of a percentage point or two back in favor of the Repubs trying to play with the Dems toys, but not being allowed to.

But my vote is final unless somebody comes up with a bribe or the supreme court rules otherwise.
