Mach1ne Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I've tried Mac OS's, I've tried Windows OS's and I've tried Linux. Just out of curiousity, what are people's feeling on Solaris? Pros? Cons?
DrP Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Just out of curiousity, what are people's feeling on Solaris? Not George Cloonies finest hour. ( - sorry - couldn't resist it)
NeonBlack Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I use Solaris daily. Unless there is some special software that you need, there is probably no reason to use Solaris over Linux, in my opinion. By using Solaris, you will be limiting your access to a lot of support and software available to Linux.
Klaynos Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 If you want a unix, I'd probably suggest a bsd over solaris, simply because support tends to be a bit better, probably freebsd...
bascule Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I haven't used Solaris regularly for awhile, but I certainly used to. If you want my general opinion on it I think it's a great OS for a server but would recommend against using it for a desktop. You'd be a lot better off with something like Ubuntu if you want a Unix-based desktop
kelcya Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 solaris is not really intended to be a desktop OS. It is more of a server OS.
